SEO isn’t dead. It just stopped falling for shortcuts.

Every year someone declares SEO dead. Every year, the businesses doing it properly quietly collect the traffic. Here’s what ‘properly’ looks like now.

Every twelve months or so, someone announces that SEO is dead. AI search, zero-click results, the algorithm update of the month — pick your culprit. And every twelve months, the businesses that do it properly carry on quietly collecting the traffic.

SEO isn’t dead. The shortcuts are.

What stopped working

Keyword stuffing, bulk-bought links, thin pages spun out for every town within 50 miles. These used to move the needle. Now they’re more likely to move you off page one entirely.

What works now

  • Genuinely useful content. Pages that answer the question better than anyone else on the results page.
  • Technical housekeeping. Fast pages, clean structure, no broken journeys. Boring? Yes. Essential? Also yes.
  • Real authority. Being mentioned by people who matter in your industry, because you’re actually worth mentioning.
  • Patience. Good SEO compounds. It’s a pension, not a lottery ticket.

Write for the person searching, not the search engine. The search engine is trying very hard to be that person.

So where do you start?

Start with the questions your customers ask you on the phone every week. Each one is a page waiting to be written — and a search you could be winning.
